The detection of harmful food pathogens in raw and processed foods with the help of fast and sensitive technologies throughout the entire production chain is essential in order to protect the consumer against possible health consequences. As a reliable and particularly sensitive method, real-time PCR is an important method in modern food analysis and delivers substantially faster results than the classical detection methods.

In addition to real-time PCR, protein assays by means of ELISA (Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay) are a relevant element for the detection of food pathogens. ELISA kits are characterised by their speed of analyses and a very simple handling. A further advantage is the relatively small footprint of laboratory equipment.
